The six micro-credentials offered by 91探花, in partnership with Woundpedia, will provide specialized, live training by knowledgeable and skilled instructors. The first of six courses begins Friday, January 20 and is now open.
This project is supported through the Government of Ontario鈥檚 $15 million investment to accelerate the development and engagement of micro-credentials across the province. Institutions that demonstrated success in enhancing community partnerships, driving economic recovery and increasing job growth with their micro-credentials were eligible for additional funding through the Community Impact Award to support expansion of their micro-credentials.
鈥淐ongratulations to 91探花 for their leadership on helping expand micro-credentials across the province,鈥 said the Honourable Jill Dunlop, Minister of Colleges and Universities. 鈥淎s one of eight institutions to receive an Ontario Micro-credentials Community Impact Award, 91探花 is increasing the reach and capacity of our micro-credential programs and training graduates in key sectors to address Ontario鈥檚 labour needs as we continue building new, critical infrastructure like hospitals, roads and bridges.鈥
Other partners include the City of Sault Ste. Marie, Northern Ontario School of Medicine, Nurses Specialized in Wound, Ostomy and Continence, Seven Generations Education Institute, and Maamwesying.
Course prices range from $99 - $399 with discounts provided when registering for multiple courses. The following courses will be offered:
- Dermatology: Friday, January 20, online via zoom
- Long-Term Care Wound care: Saturday, January 21, online via zoom
- Wound Bed Preparation: Friday, January 27, online or in-person at 91探花
- Diabetic Foot Ulcers and Leg Ulcers: Saturday, January 28, online or in-person at 91探花
- Leg and Foot Ulcer Boot Camp 鈥 Practical Skills: Sunday, January 29, in-person at 91探花
- Pressure, Inflammatory and Traumatic Wounds: Friday, February 10, online via zoom
Residents in Northern Ontario statistically have a much higher rate of amputations of their lower extremities. This interprofessional training in healthcare builds capacity for increased Northern-based knowledge and skills will be taught with this learning experience. Particular attention will be given to the unique needs of Indigenous and remote patients as well as the interconnectivity between professions.
This program has been accredited for MAINPRO+ credits for Family Physicians and accredited for Royal College Specialists. For physicians attending these courses, Queen鈥檚 University is awarding Continuing Medical Education credits for all courses except the Leg and Foot Ulcer Boot Camp.
Individuals travelling to Sault Ste. Marie for in-person learning can apply for up a travel stipend of up to $3000. The travel stipend covers flights/transportation, accommodations and meals. Only 50 stipends will be awarded. for funding are currently open.
